Island Peak, also known as Imja-Tse, is a striking mountain located in Nepal’s Sagarmatha National Park, reaching an altitude of 6,189 meters (20,305 feet). The mountain derives its name from its appearance, resembling an island amidst a vast sea of ice, and is part of the south ridge of the Lhotse Shar Glacier.

The trek to Island Peak offers an incredible journey through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Starting from Lukla, the route follows the Dudh Kosi River to Namche Bazaar, continues to Dingboche, and then to Chhukung before reaching the summit.   • Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a friendly representative from our team will be there to greet you and assist with your transfer to the hotel. You will have the chance to meet with your experienced guide today and take advantage of the opportunity to address any remaining concerns or inquiries you may have regarding your upcoming trek to Everest Base Camp.

    Flights to Lukla are now departing from Manthali Airport, which is a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu, due to recent regulations and upgrades. After the drive, there will be a 20-minute flight to Lukla from Manthali. Our local porters will be waiting to welcome you. As we descend to Phakding, you’ll see Tibetan prayer flags and hear locals reciting mantras along the trail.

    Today’s trail goes through forests, villages, and yak pastures. We’ll see Thamserku at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. After lunch, we’ll head to Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa village in the Khumbu Region. It’s also the starting point for many expeditions and trekking groups, and a great place to buy last-minute items like chocolates. We’ll trek for approximately 6 hours, reaching an altitude of 3440 m/11,280 ft. We’ll stay in a lodge and enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner (B/L/D).

    Today is an acclimatization day, but we won’t be idle. Being active is the best way to acclimate. We can hike around or visit the Khumjung village school established by Sir Edmund Hillary. We’ll have stunning views of several prominent peaks, including Mount Everest.

     Today’s trail offers a chance to take beautiful photographs without steep ascents or descents. You’ll see Stupas, prayer flags, Mani walls, and stunning views of Ama Dablam. The highlight is Tengboche Monastery, reached via a dusty switchback trail. The panoramic vistas are breathtaking, and you might attend a service with a small donation. Don’t forget to light some butter lamps while you’re there.

    The next day of the trek begins with us continuing our journey towards Pheriche, a village located in the Khumbu Region of Eastern Nepal at an altitude of 4,371 m. This stopover is a popular destination for trekkers and climbers who need a break and some rest. Pheriche was once primarily known for farming potatoes, buckwheat, and rearing Yaks, but now during the summer, many people, especially men, are engaged in trekking as trekkers, guides, or porters. We will spend the night at a guesthouse in Pheriche. This picturesque village is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, making it a sight to behold.

    Another day of acclimatization is needed as we continue to climb to higher altitudes. Short hikes are available, including a visit to the base of Nangkar Tshang Peak, offering sacred sites and a view of Mt. Makalu. The gradual ascent during this hike helps your body prepare for higher altitudes. The hike typically takes 3.5 to 5 hours round-trip.

    Gorakshep, situated in the Khumbu region, is a well-known final stop for many trekkers. Its name translates to “Dead Raven” in the Sherpa language, and it is home to numerous soaring raven flocks. This village is an essential landmark as it is the last stop before the trekkers reach Mount Everest. Visitors can indulge in a hot cup of lemon tea while enjoying the beautiful views. Furthermore, Gorakshep is famous for its habitat and is mainly inhabited by trekkers and climbers. They can rest here before embarking on their final journey to Mount Everest. Stay overnight at a comfortable guesthouse.

    After spending a night in Lobuche, on the 11th day of the trek, we will be making our way towards the popular destination of Dingboche. Dingboche is a picturesque village situated at an altitude of 4,410 m in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It is a crucial rest point for climbers and trekkers who are enroute to Mount Everest and other Himalayan peaks. The locals of Dingboche mainly rely on tourism as their primary source of income, and they run various lodges and tented camps for trekkers and climbers. We will spend the night at one of the cozy guesthouses in Dingboche, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere of this charming mountain village.

    Early morning on the 10th day, we will leave for Chhukhung after having breakfast. This day will require us to walk a little more than usual as it’s a long day trek. Chhukhung is located a short distance away from the Island Peak Base Camp and is a popular rest stop for climbers. We will stay overnight in a comfortable mountain lodge and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding peaks and landscapes.

    We will commence our journey early in the morning with the goal of reaching the Island Peak Base Camp, situated at an elevation of 6189 meters. Island Peak is an immensely challenging peak that is not recommended for everyone. The high altitude and difficult climbing terrain pose significant challenges to even the most experienced climbers, with many trekkers also experiencing altitude sickness. Despite the challenges, the Island Peak Base Camp offers breathtaking views of the Glacier Lake, making the journey worth the effort. We will spend the night in a tented camp, soaking in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

    On the following day of the trek, we will ascend further to the High Camp from the Island Peak Base Camp. The journey towards High Camp will take around 4-5 hours of walking. Once we reach the High Camp, we will prepare ourselves for the summit push the following day. We will stay overnight in a tented camp at the High Camp. The weather and temperature at this altitude can be unpredictable and harsh, so we need to be well-prepared and acclimatized. This phase of the trek requires physical endurance and mental strength. The summit day is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek.

    On this significant day, we will ascend to the summit, which offers breathtaking views of some of the highest peaks in the world, including Pumori (7161 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Makalu (8463 m), Lobuche (6145 m), and Cho Oyu (8201 m). These are considered to be the most stunning views that you can witness from the summit. After the summit, we will descend back to the Base Camp. It will be an unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever. We will stay overnight in a cozy Mountain Lodge.

    The 15th day of our journey is crucial as it marks our attempt to summit the peak. While we hope for good weather, we cannot control nature, so we have included an extra day in our schedule to accommodate any unfavorable conditions. In case we are unable to summit on the 13th day, we can try again the next day. However, if we succeed, we will continue with our itinerary. The view from the Summit is breathtaking, and we will be able to witness the stunning beauty of our surroundings. We will spend the night at a Mountain Lodge.

    We will resume our trek on the 15th day by descending from Island Peak. It will take around 4 hours of trekking to reach Tengboche. As we have already been to Tengboche before, we are familiar with the surrounding area. We can enjoy the scenic beauty of the trail as we walk downhill. Upon arrival in Tengboche, we can relax and unwind at the guesthouse. We can also explore the nearby area or visit the famous Tengboche Monastery. We will spend the night at the guesthouse before continuing our trek the next day.

    After having breakfast, we will leave Tengboche and continue our trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m). Namche Bazaar is a breathtakingly beautiful place, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. On our way, we will take a break to visit the traditional villages of Khumjung and Khunde. We can explore the unique monasteries which have a very distinctive structure. Namche Bazaar is also known for its bustling market where we can buy souvenirs and interact with the locals. We will stay overnight at a guesthouse in Namche Bazaar.

    After a seven-hour downhill trek, we will arrive at Lukla. Here, we will spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for our flight back to Kathmandu, which is scheduled for the following day. Lukla is located at an altitude of 2,840 meters and is the starting point of our trek. We will be staying overnight at a guesthouse before heading to the airport.

Buckle up for an exciting drive to Manthali Airport, which will take approximately 5-6 hours from Kathmandu. But wait, there’s more! On your return from Lukla, get ready for a thrilling flight to Manthali Airport followed by a scenic drive back to Kathmandu. Get your cameras ready for some unforgettable views along the way!

Our representative will be there to assist you with your transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport, where you’ll take off to your next destination.
